Unable to Change Source within Data Source Settings for Semantic Models - October 2024 Update

Hi,

After rebooting my company laptop this morning I haven't been able to change the source within the data source settings for semantic model connections in Power BI Desktop. Whenever I click 'Change Source' a new 'hidden' pop-up window appears in my taskbar, but I can't see it anywhere, and it only appears as a white empty window in the task bar. I can however connect to a "new" semantic model without any issues, the issue only exists when trying to change the connection for an exisitng semantic model.

I can see that Power BI Desktop was updated to the newest version (Version: 2.134.7447.1 64-bit (October 2024)) after the reboot, as part of the company's auto update policies. As such, I strongly assume that this new update brought along the issue, as no security updates has been deployed this week by my company's InfoSec team. Furthermore, a team member with an older version of Power BI Desktop is not facing this issue.

This issue is preventing us from testing updates to semantic models on reports in Power BI Desktop, effectively blocking our weekly deployment.

Any help here would be much appreciated.

Thank you,

If you are having trouble changing the source within Data Source Settings for Semantic Models after the October 2024 update, try the following steps:

Check Permissions: Make sure you have the appropriate permissions to change data sources.
Resart the Application: In some cases, simply restarting the application may resolve a temporarily created condition.
Update the Model: If updating the model is possible, update it and check whether this resolves the problem.
Clear cache: Clearing the application's cache may help identify the new source.
Review Release Notes: Some known issues with regards to the update are indicated in the release notes made available.

Similar issue listed posted: https://community.fabric.microsoft.com/t5/Issues/Unable-to-change-the-Semantic-Model-a-report-is-lin...

Window showing data source settings does not open at all though, taken to OneLake Data hub page with option to connect to a model when want to change from Model A to Model B instead.

I see this issue got some attention by others recently. I would like to add, that a few days after I experienced the issue, MS updated the Power BI version in the app store, which solved the problem for me.
