New Button Slicer Formatting Options in Service

UPDATE: Issue fixed with new json theme. However, @mattlee there is a problem with the button fill. The fill doesn't actually fill the whole of the last button and is a visual glitch. See the screenshot below. Any idea if this will be fixed?

This is a new issue in the service recently introduced. I have a new button slicer with the selected state of the callout values configured to have a different font colour. This works fine in Desktop but is ignored in the Service. Previously, this was working fine.

Update for repro steps:

In Service (colours not applied and also note the thin grey bar to the right of the last button which also should not be there):

Status: Accepted

A second issue related to conditional formatting rules for New Slicer (Preview) with May Desktop has been identified, we plan to QFE Desktop within a few days so you can continue to author new format rules for Button and List Slicer in the May release. Existing saved rules are fine. This issue is not related to custom themes. If you save a file with conditional format rules for New Button or List slicer, you may encounter a silent upgrader error, which will cause the formatting to be lost the next time you open the file. The Desktop QFE will fix this for May soon, but Edit/Save in the web will take longer to be patched.

Hello, is this issue already fixed? I installed the june update and the issue persists when publishing the dashboard.

@questtopowerbi, it's still broken for me (web/service)... 😖

This should be fixed, and a quick test on my end has this working. Can you help me understand all the details? What is the exact setup you are building? For example:

I created a new Button Slicer with June Desktop, using a text field with 3 distinct values. Then I set, in Buttons format card, background color to light blue for Hover. Also for Selected I set background to dark blue and border thickness to 4. I publish to web, and it works as expected.

The only known gap is that GOV/SOV clouds are not deployed yet, that should be completed by June 20th.

Hi @mattlee, Thank you for your response. I'm a GOV user, so I guess that explains why I'm not seeing the fixed button-slicer behavior yet. (Otherwise, I'm doing the steps as you described.) I'll report back again after June 20th!

Hi @mattlee, I am still facing the same issue. I want to have different background color and border color for a button with specific name: "A". When the value is "A" buttons should have grey background and border. I've created measure: Format = IF(SELECTEDVALUE('Table'[Column]) = "A", 1) Then after creating visual I go to FORMAT VISUAL --> BUTTON --> STATE, SERIES ALL --> FILL --> fx --> RULES --> Format equals 1 color selected #F7F7F7 Everything looks great in desktop but after publishing the conditional formatting disappear. Mode: Live connection Additionally, other report file with the same visual and conditional formatting has got the formatting after publishing and that is super strange. No themes from json files. Cheers, Monika

Hi @mattlee, creating a new button slicer keeps the colors, adjusting an old one fails to keep the conditional color formatting when publishing. Thanks!

Seem like there are related formatting issues from this post with regards to horizontal formatting across the different states of this visual. https://community.fabric.microsoft.com/t5/Issues/New-Button-Slicer-Formatting-Options/idi-p/4674689

Hi @mattlee, Reporting back as a GOV user: my button-slicer colors are working correctly now on the web / service. HOORAY!

I find that creating a new button slicer in Desktop and publishing in desktop will keep the conditional formatting. But if I save and then go to edit in the web, it clears out the conditional formatting that I created in desktop. this happens if I choose to edit in web service and save. Which I do have to do because I need another visual to not have the "copy visual" icon in the header. Which I am not able to do in desktop. Is there a time frame to when it will be fixed in the web service?

@mattlee I have been unable to get my conditional formatting for Button slicers to save on either Power BI desktop or Power BI web. I have tried on pbix files that are published to our workspace as well as those only on my local drives. I have also attempted to import the June theme schema, but have only gotten this error: "Error importing theme file There was a problem importing your theme file. The JSON syntax was invalid, missing required property "name", used invalid colors, or provided invalid top-level properties." My desktop version is 2.144.679.0 64-bit (June 2025) and I am a GOV user. Is my version behind or is there still a fix that needs done for Button slicers? Thank you.
