Connection Timeout to Azure Analysis Services (AAS) in Power BI Desktop March 2026 Build

Since updating to the March 2026 version of Power BI Desktop, I am unable to connect to a specific Tabular model on Azure Analysis Services (AAS).

Error Message: "The connection failed. An error occurred while trying to connect. Details: Could not connect to the Analysis Services server because the connection timed out or the server name is incorrect.".

Key Findings:

  • Regression: The connection works perfectly with the November 2025 version of Power BI Desktop on the same machine and with the same credentials/network.

  • Specific Context: The issue occurs only with one specific Tabular model, while others remain accessible.

  • Community Feedback: Other users and clients have reported similar connectivity issues specifically with the latest March 2026 update.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Open Power BI Desktop (March 2026 version).

  2. Select "Get Data" > "Azure Analysis Services database".

  3. Enter Server and Database name (Connect Live).

  4. Error appears after a short attempt.

Environment Details:

  • Current PBI Desktop Version: 2.151.1182.0

  • Previous Working Version: November 2025

  • Data Source: Azure Analysis Services (Tabular)

  • Authentication: Azure Active Directory - Universal with MFA

Same here.... process stopt. Logging in to Power BI and enter credentials for acces to dataset results in error message "Token refresh timed out"

Myself and many colleagues are also impacted by this. Very frustrating. In the March 2026 version, I get the ''PowerBI service live connection is invalid. Please try again. We could not connected to the Analysis Services server because the connection timed out or the server name is incorrect." Installed the Feb 2026 version, I get the "Token refresh timed out" error message. In the November 2025 version, I can now connect successfully...but I'm on an older outdated version now and some of our reports are no longer compatible with this Nov 2025 version. Stuck in a loop of errors - not ideal. Even stranger... some colleagues do have the March 2026 version and can connect to the Analysis Services model successfully... so the issue seems intermittent...not all users are impacted, some are and some not (with the same version & settings). Please fix this Microsoft, not being able to connect to our Analysis Services model is a big problem.
