semantic Model : Grouping objects into category folders in semantic model warehoouse or lakehouse

Hello everyone,

I have objects (columns) from several tables that refer to the same theme in my semantic fabric model. My need is to group these objects in categories folders, in order to put the objects that correspond to the same theme in the same folder, even if these objects (columns) come from different tables. As shown in my image attached. I have two tables that contain objects that speak of the same theme, which is called "Besoin". My goal is to create a global "Besoin" folder that brings together the columns from these two tables and dealing with the same theme. Can you tell me if this feature is available in Fabric, please?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Hello @DALI007 ,

Yes you cannot create a single display folder that includes multiple distinct tables columns unfortunately ; the display folder property only applies to columns and measures within a single table.

Please accept this as a solution if this is helpful.

Thanks

Hi @DALI007

When connective live to Sematic model , Display Folder field is disabled , so open it in
Direct Query mode :

Display folder option will be enabled and then you can make the changes and then publish this model to your workspace

I have tried these steps , all worked for me.

Thanks

Hello @nilendraFabric , It works for me too, but for the table. For the table, you can group the columns. However, I am not able to create a global folder and group columns from several tables in one folder.
Thank you

Hi @DALI007

the Display Folder feature for organizing columns and measures in semantic models is not available directly in the Microsoft Fabric UI

  • Load your semantic model into Power BI Desktop. (To edit, connect to the semantic model from Power BI Desktop via the OneLake Data Hub, make your changes, and they will automatically reflect in the Fabric workspace)
  • Navigate to the Model view in Power BI Desktop, where you can see all the tables and their columns
  • Select a column or measure from any table.
  • In the properties pane, locate the Display Folder field.
  • Enter a folder name (e.g., "Besoin") for the selected column or measure.

Please check if this works.

Thanks

Hi @nilendraFabric ,

Thank you for your response. I did the action on Power BI Desktop, but I got the same result. This means that the forlder is created at the table level, but not at the global level. My goal is to group columns from different tables that deal with the same topic in the same folder.
