Using Data Activator for Power BI reports

Dear Community,

I would have the following question on Data Activator.

I would like to set up triggers/alerts/reflexes for Power BI reports so that I can monitor if a scheduled refresh did not happen or it happened but after the refresh the visuals ran on error due to some error with the underlying data. I have read that Data Activator reflexes/triggers seem to work only with real-time data/stream data.

Is it also possible to set up triggers for a "normal" report where the data source is a SQL server that and the report is refreshed once a week or in similar time intervals?

I would be grateful to have clarity on that.

Thank you for your help,

Adam

  • Hi AdamMetz23 ,
Thanks for reaching out to the Microsoft fabric community forum.

Currently you can set up alerts for Power BI reports and configure them in Activator only for visuals

Create alerts in Power BI and use them in Fabric Activator - Microsoft Fabric | Microsoft Learn
After you create a Power BI alert, you can save it in an existing or new Activator. When you open that alert in Activator, you have almost endless possibilities for fine tuning and expanding the capabilities of that alert.
But you can not configure it for Refresh failures currently using this method.

Instead go to settings of the report after clicking epsilon

In the refresh part of the settings

You can configure to send refresh failure notification to the required people.

  • Not to my knowledge. And it would be pointless too.  Instead, use Power Automate or similar to check the KPIs after each refresh.
