Fabric data factory copy activity using managed private endpoint
Hi Team,
Can the Copy activity in Microsoft Fabric Data Factory be used through a Managed private endpoint when the workspace is configured with a workspace-level Private Link?
If yes, how should the connection to the source system be set up under Manage Connections and Gateways? The source system in this case is an on-premises SQL Server.
Thanks,
Mohammed
Hi Javed79,
If your source is on prem, then you need a data gateway as the portal to your Fabric environment.
You'll need to use an Azure VPN Gateway to get this set up: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/fabric/security/connect-to-on-premise-sources-using-managed-private-endpointsAlso see below for a list of supported sources with private endpoints in Fabric: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/fabric/security/security-managed-private-endpoints-create#supported-data-sources
Hi Javed79 ,
Based on your question what I could understand is you have some source data application which is trying to connect to fabric via workspace private link, however COPY data activity does not have direct facility to create managed private endpoints- The workspace as a whole connect via private endpoint from workspace settings-> outbound security.
If you need to conenct to any private application, on-prem data gateway can be used under Connections in COPY data activity and workspace identity can be used for authentication.
Currently, you can see above Managed Private Endpoints are available for notebook and Spark job definitions and not copy activity.
Let me know if this response answers your question.
Thanks
