Hi @Anonymous,

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Fabric Community Forum.

After reviewing the details regarding the issue of taking a backup from the existing dataflow, please following the below steps to address this issue.

  • Check your Power BI workspace settings and ensure that Azure Data Lake Storage account is correctly linked and configured, including networking settings such as firewall rules.
  • Check the permissions for the user or service principal accessing Azure Data Lake Storage. Ensure they have at least read access to the needed files and folders. Assign roles like Storage Blob Data Reader when necessary.
  • Varity the authentication method for Azure Data Lake Storage to allow data migration. Provide credentials, tokens or keys are correctly set up and valid. Try disconnecting and reconnect the Azure Data Lake Storage account in Power BI to refresh the connection settings and resolve any temporary issues.
  • Use the Test Connection feature in Power BI to confirm that the connection to Azure Data Lake Storage is working properly. This helps identify any connection issues that may arise.
  • Ensure that you are using the latest versions of Power BI Desktop and the Power BI Service for bug fixes and enhancements.
  • Ensure Azure Data Factory IPs are allowed to access your storage account firewall and that your integration runtime is configured to connect to Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2, especially if behind a firewall. If you encounter errors like unable to read data from the transport connection, it may be a transient issue.

When using managed identity authentication, please ensure that it has the necessary permissions, such as the Storage Blob Data Contributor role, to write data, for instance.

If you have any further queries, please feel free to reach out to us we will guide you accordingly. If this post helps, then please give us Kudos and consider Accept it as a solution to help the other members find it more quickly.

What's your rationale behind attempting to take a backup from an intermediate step in your process?  Or do you mean the meta data?
