Fail to assign capacity to workspace

Our trial has ended, and we have purchased a license. However, when I assign my workspace with all my fabric elements, it says 'Fail to Assign' in the admin portal.  Looking through Shell or the workspace settings, it says that it is connected to the new capacity.

In the workspace I am not able to go into the lakehouses or connect to them in the dataflow gen 2.

Have you checked in the workspace settings that it is assigned to the right capacity yet?

Hi @EpokaDWH ,

This issue can sometimes happen if the workspace assignment is not fully updated in the backend after moving from trial to paid license. Here’s what you should try:

  1. Log out from the admin portal and log in again. This can refresh your session and update your permissions.
  2. Make sure your new capacity is fully provisioned and assigned in the admin settings. Double-check that the workspace is correctly linked to the new capacity (sometimes there’s delay).
  3. If you’re still seeing “Fail to Assign,” try removing the workspace from its current capacity and reassigning it.
  4. For the lakehouse and dataflow gen2 access, it’s possible the workspace didn’t inherit all necessary permissions after the license change. Check the workspace roles and make sure your user account has the right permissions.

If none of these work, it might be backend sync issue. Waiting 15-30 mins and retrying sometimes helps after new licenses are applied.

If my response resolved your query, kindly mark it as the Accepted Solution to assist others. Additionally, would be grateful for 'Kudos' if you found my response helpful.
