Service Principal authentication for SharePoint Connections
With the retirement of SharePoint ACS-based authentication, customers using SharePoint connectors in Microsoft Fabric and Power BI must now use User OAuth or Workspace Identity. While these are supported alternatives, they do not provide the same centralized and reusable authentication experience that Service Principals previously offered.
Service Principals enabled scalable service-to-service authentication across multiple workspaces and environments with minimal administrative overhead. In comparison, Workspace Identity requires separate configuration and permission management for each workspace, which can be challenging for enterprise deployments.
This enhancement would greatly simplify SharePoint connectivity scenarios for organizations using Microsoft Fabric and Power BI.
