Prioritize Fabric Table Shortcuts to Azure SQL Database

Fabric allows you to mirror an Azure SQL database, but if you are using a feature of Azure SQL that makes it unsuitable for mirroring, your only option is to copy the data into OneLake, thus negating one of the core principles of Fabric ie. avoiding data duplication. I would have thought that MS would have offered the option to create shortcuts to Azure SQL from the outset.
