Date table functionality needed in DirectLake Semantic model
When building a Semantic model in the Service or in Desktop with tables from DirectLake to a Lakehouse the table of calendar dates acts like a fact or dimension table and not a date table. Also, fields with Date data type do not get recognized in Semantic model with the date hierarchy for time intelligence visualization or aggregations. The Semantic model requires me to switch to DirectQuery mode to add a date table that works for time intelligence features. This is a major disappointment that a basic concept in model building is restricted. I worked out enough DAX to get around it temporarily only to find that I also cannot sort a column in a table by another column in a table, which is also a standard tool in Power BI Desktop.
Please consider at bare minimum a date table option for time intelligence visuals and measures.
