deployment pipelines

Hello, 

Does anyone know if you can use deployment pipelines with Datasets which use Dataflows (as their data source) contained in another workspace which is a workspace not apart of the deployment pipeline?

Any information would be greatly appreciated,

Yes, deployement pipelines only manage the meta data synchronization - they don't really care if your permissions are set correctly everywhere.

Hi lbendlin,

Let me try to clarify what I am asking. I am not asking about permissions but asking about dependencies between different Power BI objects because if you deploy from, say, the development stage to the test stage, if a report is dependent on a shared dataset then that shared dataset must be deployed with the report to the test stage(workspace) otherwise the deployment will fail. At least, that is my understanding of deployment pipelines. So I am asking is this dependency applicable to dataflows as well...? Hope that makes sense.

For dataflows and datasets that are managed in the same pipeline, the pipeline automatically changes the connections so that Dev dataset will connect to dev dataflow, and Test dataset will connect to Test dataflow. You can also control that yourself through parameters and parameter rules, which requires the user to configure it once.
But if you just want it to work that dev points to dev, and test points to test, it will just work.

You are not deploying a shared dataset. You are deploying a link to a shared dataset.  You are only moving meta data around, not actual data.
