Update the DatasetID for a list of reports using REST API?

I have a list of 40 Report IDs in the Power BI service that point to a defunct DatasetID.

I need to change the DatasetID for all 40 of them.

Can this be done with the API?

Bonus question: What if some of the reports are in users' "My Workspace"?

Thanks for looking!

Hi @AnonymousPerson

You can try Rest Api as below to change data source for your reports.

Important: The original datasource and the new datasource must have the exact same schema.
Required scope: Reports.ReadWrite.All

Restrictions:

  • This operation is only supported for the datasource owner
  • Update datasources supports only paginated reports
  • Changing datasource type is not supported

My workspace:

For reference: Reports - Update Datasources

POST https://api.powerbi.com/v1.0/myorg/reports/{reportId}/Default.UpdateDatasources

Specific workspace:

For reference: Reports - Update Datasources In Group

POST https://api.powerbi.com/v1.0/myorg/groups/{groupId}/reports/{reportId}/Default.UpdateDatasources
