Unable to connect to localhost for Custom Visual Development CORS error

I followed the steps for setting up the development environment here

I was able to get the software and cert installed and pbiviz starts fine from my visuals folder.

 

When I add the custom visual element it is not able to make a connection to localhost and gives me this error.

Cross-Origin Request Blocked: The Same Origin Policy disallows reading the remote resource at https://localhost:8080/assets/status. (Reason: CORS request did not succeed)

 

I reached out to my local IT and they told me the issue is on the Microsoft side. Has anyone run into this sort of issue before?
