Subset of actual semantic model to be joined with new excel file on desktop

Hi,

I got a scenario where a report is generated through Q&A in Power BI service. The report which has subset data of actual semantic model needs to be joined with new file which is on desktop or share point. Not through export but the subset should be connected with actual semantic model instead of creating new model.

Please suggest on above

Hi @Y_Bobby ,
Thank you for reaching out to us on Microsoft FAbric Community Forum!

Since Q&A in Power BI creates a temporary subset from a semantic model, it may not be directly joined with external files. However, you can replicate that subset and join it with your file using Power BI Desktop. Just connect to the original semantic model using Get Data > Power BI Datasets (with Build permission), then bring in your new file from SharePoint or desktop. Create relationships using common keys, apply the same filters used in your Q&A visual to recreate the subset, and build your report. This approach keeps your connection to the semantic model without exporting data or creating a new model. Then, publish the report to the service.
