Showcase dashboards on website --> what kind of website to build?

Hi all,

I have some ideas to aggregate data and showcase these publically on a website.

It mostly are graphs.

To make it easy for users to filter/navigate the graphs, I thought a really easy solution would be to create a website and simply show the Power BI dashboards on this website. This way, barely any programming is required.

However, I was wondering what would be the best website builder to use (like WIX, squarepace), or do I have to build the whole website myself as well to showcase my dashboards? Does anyone have experience with this? So I just want to quickly make a website to showcase the dashboards and am considering something like WIX and Squarespace to quickly get my website up and running (also because I do not have expierence building websites yet).

Kind regards,

Hi @Anonymous ,

If you want to embed report in your website, Power BI embedded analytics requires a capacity (A, EM, or P SKU) for publishing embedded Power BI content. And users accessing this report need to log in to view this report. This is not easy compared to publishing directly to the web.

Hi @V-lianl-msft ,

Thanks a lot for the link, this helps a lot.

All the visitors need to simply be able to use the itneractive dashboard. They should not be able to download data etc. I want to publish it on a public website. So there is no way I can let visitors play around in the dashboard while they have no pro licence (thats what you mean with capacity I assume?)

" visitors need to simply be able to use the itneractive dashboard. They should not be able to download data etc. "

That's not realistic. If you don't want them to download your data then you should not show them your data in any form.

They need to be able to see the line graphs I made in the dashboard. The underlying data updates every week, which takes me a lot of effort (webscraping etc). That is why I don't want visitors to be able to simply download all underlying data.

I don't think your visitors care about the effort you put into the updates. Nor should they.  Think about what is convenient for them, not what is convenient for you.   The harder you make it for users to consume your data the faster they will abandon ship and get their insights elsewhere.

On the other hand - as I mentioned - if you are concerned about data leakage then you should not place your data where others can see it. Beyond that you will need to consider RLS, sensitivity labels, or good old contractual agreements (ie non-technical provisions) to keep your data safe.

Hi @lbendlin ,

Thanks a lot for you answer, You have a good point indeed. Woudl be better to make it as easy for the users as possible.

Just to clarify; The only way users can retrieve the data is by clicking on "export" data when selecting a figure right? (see screenshot below).

They cannot get into the underlying database right?

Mostly correct. "Export data"  will only access the dataset, not the underlying database.  In most scenarios...

My recommendation would be to use links rather than attempting this with iframes.

When you "publish to web"  you will already get a URL for your report. No dedicated website required.

but I would like to showcase it on a decicated website so I can also show a couple of other things. What would you reccommend?
