Revisiting: Power BI Embedded Refresh Limitations

I would like to know, before I procure an Embedded node...for both A1- and EM1-type nodes...are dataset refreshes limited to 8 refreshes per day? Or, do they act like "Premium capacity," where the only limit is that data refreshes must be scheduled at :00 or :30 past the hour (up to 48 times per day)?

Basically, this same exact question. But the answer on that thread is ambiguous, to me.

  • I haven't procured any A1, EM1 or P1 nodes yet, so I cannot test it out to see whether workspaces in A1- or EM1-type capacities show the "diamond" icon...nor can I see how many refreshes I can schedule.
  • I cannot tell whether that answer is implying that A1- and EM1-type nodes are "Premium capacity," or are not "Premium capacity."

Many thanks!

I finally just got an A1 node in Azure, and moved a workspace into that Embedded Capacity, and tested it myself.

They act like "Premium Capacity." Workspaces on the A1 node do show the "diamond" icon. And, I could schedule 48 refreshes per day.

Hi @kevhav,

What is the pricing for A1 node?

Do they charge hourly or monthly?

https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/pricing/details/power-bi-embedded/

They charge hourly. It's just ~$1 per hour, for A1.

In fact, they pro-rate hours.

So, you can procure an A1 node; test it out for 30 minutes; and then "pause" the node. So it will still be available in case you want to "start" again, but after pausing, you will have stopped paying for it. So a 30-minute test will just cost you ~$0.50.
