In all of the Financial accounting reports I have worked with, there is a simple easy and accurate way to reverse revenue so it displays as a positive number in financial reports.
I have tried everything in Power BI and nothing will do this. If I create a measure or calculated column, then any matrix or table doesnt provide the correct net amount. We are stuck using negative numbers as revenue.
I wish the Visuals were easier to work with. All that needs to be done is add simple logic to the visual that removes the negative number format and displays it as a positive format without affecting the underlying calculation. All Matrix and tables etc...will still calculate on the negative value but the visual itself Or Power Bi would be smart enough to format Revenue in anther way except using a negtive number format.
This is basic 101 in report requirements for financial data. I hope Power BI becomes more financial reporting friendly as that is where alot of value would come from Power BI.
It seems that what you want is an advanced conditional formatting. For the time being, you could try to create Power BI visuals using R script or create custom visual using PowerBI Custom Visual CLI Tools.
Hello Sam,
If only I was that smart to create a Visual or Rscript it sure would be easier...:)
We are looking to Hire a company that has programers that program visuals, so we will utilize some help in that area. Hopefully, the Power BI team will realize all the missing functionality when it comes to Financial reporting and perhps focus on providing standard accounting report functionality alongside the already powerful anaylitic engine.
