I understand that the Redshift connector is in preview at the moment, and as such only supports Direct Query from within the desktop application.
I also understand that support for the redshift connector from within the powerbi service, and through a gateway is planned, but my knowledge of the powerbi ecosystem is quite lacking so my question is:
Would the upcoming support for these two cases also imply that using PowerBI Embedded + Redshift w/ Direct Query will be supported as well? Will such a thing be possible ever?
Is there a tenable workaround for securely embedding reports fed via Redshift into a web app?

So far Power BI Embedded only supports DirectQuery to Azure SQL DB/DW.
The status of this idea Support other data sources Direct Query using Gateway on Embedded Power BI shows started, so I think there will be more options, either direct query to a on-premise data source via gateway or directly connect to a cloud service afther the feature implemented.
I don't quite get your last question, maybe you're looking for Row level security with Power BI Embedded.
