Hi,
I've been googling a lot on the topic but still not sure if I have the answer. Is it currently possible to have part of your model sourced from Excel file on the sharepoint and ability to see the latest update in Power BI very quickly just with one click (refreshing the visuals) without having to refresh the whole dataset? Is this achievable with composite models or push datasets? Any other possibilities?
Thanks for the answer Xiaoxin.
Maybe I was not clear enough but what is most important for me is that part of dataset would behave as "Direct Query" (this option is not avaialble with Excel sources) so update immediately after refreshing visuals (not hourly) and the other part of dataset would be in "Import Mode" refreshed hourly. Basically I want to achieve a "Direct Query" with Excel source but since I know it's not possible I'm looking for a potential workaround?
HI @PshemekFLK,
Perhaps you can try to create a custom connector to enable the direct query mode on an ODBC-based connector: (excel support odbc driver)

HI @PshemekFLK,
AFAIK, the current power bi does not support the refresh part of the dataset. Did you mean to work with a mixed dataset that used both cloud and on-premise data sources?
If that is the case, you can turn on the use gateway handle cloud datasource options. Then the gateway can handle this type of mixed dataset. (the excel file which you put on onedrive will use onedrive refresh and update hourly)
