Hello Experts,
We embed Power BI reports into our custom web app, and per Create a Power BI report in enhanced report format - Power BI | Microsoft Learn, Microsoft makes it look like PBIR format is Power BI Embedded supported.
However, per Power BI enhanced report format (PBIR) in Power BI Desktop developer mode (Preview) | Microsoft Powe..., under the Limitations section, below are the bullet points:
All service limitations will be addressed in the upcoming months. Specifically, in the next few weeks, we will resolve the following:
Would someone here be able to clarify and confirm whether PBIR format is Power BI Embedded supported?

Hi @ponyo_pankun ,
Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Community Forum.
PBIR format is currently not supported in Power BI Embedded. It is part of the Power BI Project (PBIP) structure, designed to improve source control and developer workflows. While PBIR supports advanced development scenarios, it is still in preview.
According to the official documentation, under the Limitations section. “PBIR format can’t be utilized in Power BI Embedded.” This limitation is expected to be addressed in the upcoming months, but as of now, PBIR reports cannot be embedded into custom applications using Power BI Embedded.
Note: PBIR supports for source control and developer workflows. And not yet supported in Power BI Embedded.
I hope this information helps. Please do let us know if you have any further queries.
Regards,
Dinesh

With PBIR becoming the default version, will it be supported in embedded by then? Will we need to update our embedded code to handle this? We need communication and documentation on this, please.
I asked Rui Romano on this post about 2 months ago. PBIR will become the default Power BI Report Format – Get Ready for the Transition | Microsoft...

Thanks, have you all tried updating your embedded reports? Our reports don't actually live in a repo. Our .NET code copies the reports from a template workspace into a workspace used for embedding. I guess we will just publish a pbir version instead and see if the code picks it up. 🤞
