Power BI Embedded and Export Current Layout to Excel

We're using Matrix visuals to represent numbers over time with dimensions on Rows and Year-Month on Columns.

The request from our client is to have a "Excel" button where the users can download the data from the Matrix visual but to have it in Excel and in the same format as the user sees on the screen. That is, hiearchical structure with time on columns.

The problem is, Current Layout doesn't seem to be supported? 

Does the community have any tips and or tricks regarding this dilemma?

    Hi,Yggdrasill 

    Your idea is excellent! Power BI now supports your requirement; you simply need to click on the three dots in the top right corner of the matrix visual to access this functionality.

    Once there, select the option to maintain the current page layout:

    Here are the final results after opening Excel:

    Thanks for the reply but I knew about the 3-dots and export option but I do not want that. 

     

    I need to be able to do the exact same thing but via API request so I can create a button that does what you described.

      Your idea is excellent; however, at present, the export API does not support exporting standard reports directly to CSV, and your requirements also include preserving the current layout.

      The current alternative is to use the export solution I mentioned previously:

       

      If you feel that performance needs to be improved, you can also submit an idea on

      https://ideas.fabric.microsoft.com/ and wait for users with the same needs as you to vote for you and help you realize the idea as soon as possible. Many features of our current products are designed and upgraded bed on customers’ feedback.  With requirements like this increase, the problem may well be released in the future.
