Looking to use Microsoft BI as Report Tool and as a Report Delivery Tool

Good afternoon,

We currently are using an antiquated process for generating reports for both our website and our daily spreadsheets that we send out to our customers.  It is an error prone process sorely in need of modernization and much greater flexibility.

Fielding a few questions regarding a few topics as they relate to BI.  Surface level reading it seems like a very good option for our company to go down to handle reporting.

Here are some objectives that we are wanting to achieve.

1.  Create Excel spreadsheet reports, format the reports (adding filters, cell colors based on data and row in the report, etc.), generated on a schedule and email report to an email group in a single process.  Emails with signatures and other company related icon links (Twitter, FB, IG, etc.) allowed within is needed.

2.  Create reports that are customer facing and internal with user entered paramters, primarily a date range Start and End date, that would display real time data.

I am all but certain that both can be achieved using Microsoft BI from the very brief overview I have taken.  Wondering how much data wrangling is going to be needed to do so and if other pieces of software may be required to pull this off.   I am certain that we will need an SQL database between this and our prodcution database and some sort of data replication but that is needed BI or no BI for the direction that we are heading in.

@rip73 ,

Power BI is an amazing tool for generating reports and visuals. It automates your data sourcing and cleansing, and then creates reports that can be set to fully update automatically. Two suggestions for books. M is for (Data) Monkey  @KenPuls , and Supercharge Power BI   by @MattAllington . The authors both have websites.

Let me know if you have any questions.

If this solves your issues, please mark it as the solution, so that others can find it easily. Kudos are nice too.
Nathaniel

Good morning @Nathaniel_C ,

The resources you posted will help with our research into our reporting needs and if Microsoft BI is the solution.

Right now we are still gathering ideas and options to best address our overall reporting strategy.  Microsoft BI may easily address our intended updates to our reporting dashboards.  It may not however adequaltely address our daily emailing of system generated Excel reports.

Hello @rip73

Microsoft is also incorporating paginate reporting into the PowerBI service which could help with your daily excel reports need.
