I have about 5 semantic models that are created from Views. The other day my reports stopped running due to capacity limits. I read somewhere that I may be able to run reports from "My Workspace" hitting those models bypassing the capacity. I have no more dollars to add to my fabric solution, the daily loads are running OK, it seems to only be affecting the reports.
Any help would be greatlty appreciated.
Joe

Hi @joef ,
Please check this training, I think it perfectly meets your requirement
Power BI Instructor Led Training | Microsoft Power BI
You will find instructor lead training for both Power BI and Fabric in that.

Hi @joef
May I ask if you have resolved this issue? If so, please mark the helpful reply and accept it as the solution. This will be helpful for other community members who have similar problems to solve it faster.
Thank you.
I am hoping the training you pointed me to will be good. I will accept as a solution if the training is not just a Rah Rah session, and actually teaches me something 🙂
Hi @joef ,
Thanks for reaching out to the Microsoft fabric community forum.
My Workspace is intended for personal use and collaboration features are limited.
Dataset size and refresh frequency in shared capacity are limited (e.g., max 1 GB dataset, 8 refreshes/day).
If you have a Power BI Pro license and you're using My Workspace without an assigned Fabric capacity, you can run reports in that workspace using the shared capacity included with your Pro license. The reports and models you use in this setup won't consume Fabric capacity, meaning they bypass capacity-based throttling as long as you're within the Pro limits. However, others cannot access your reports unless you explicitly share them, and only other users with Pro licenses will be able to view the shared content.

I keep hearing I can run reports on shared capacity, but my reports are failing, with this error:
"Unable to load Model due to reaching capacity limits"
How do I get around this with an F4 license?
Hi @joef
Thanks for reaching out to the Microsoft fabric community forum.
This is because you are running the models in workspace and not in my workspace. Reports running in Workspaces are bound by capacity rules and limits, if you have reached the limit for F4 you either have to scale up to a higher capacity or you can try to optimize your Power BI models, focus on reducing the dataset size, leveraging aggregations and incremental refresh to minimize memory usage.
For learning and experimentation, it's highly recommended to activate a Fabric trial capacity within your workspace. The trial provides access to premium Fabric features including Lakehouses, Pipelines, and enhanced Power BI capabilities without incurring additional costs for a limited time. Since you’re self-teaching and transitioning from SSRS, the trial capacity offers the flexibility and resources needed to learn without the constraints of production capacity limits. Just ensure the workspace is assigned to the trial capacity after activation so you can fully leverage its capabilities.

well the trial is a good and bad idea.....
The good is you can learn quickly, but you can fall into these capacity traps and very bad habits. (as I did :))
This all happened because we moved to a capacity from a trial, I kept renewing the trial and for about 6 months I had no issues, so I never thought of the capcity.
Is there a way to create reports without models in the workspace so I don't hit the capacity?
I am hoping to find some real training for fabric and PBI reporting, so I can learn how to get away from this issue
If you can point me to some instructor lead training that would be great!
Thanks,
Joe
Hi @joef ,
Unfortunately, if trial capacity is not accessible, the current alternatives are to either upgrade to a higher capacity tier or use Power BI Desktop for practicing report development locally.
Regarding learning resources for Microsoft Fabric, there are plenty available directly from Microsoft. Depending on your needs, you can explore and make use of any of the following options.
Fabric analytics engineer:Course DP-600T00-A: Microsoft Fabric Analytics Engineer - Training | Microsoft Learn
Microsoft Fabric Data Engineer: Course DP-700T00-A: Microsoft Fabric Data Engineer - Training | Microsoft Learn

thanks but I am looking for instructor lead training

Thank you! I will look into these
If you want other people to see the reports the model should not be in "my workspace"
Why does the report need to be on a capacity? It is because of licencing for end users?
More details needed
I am self-teaching myself, which is very challenging. I was handed a Lakehouse and was asked to create reports from the data. I have knowledge of SSRS but PBI is completely different.
Searching for training for Fabric and PBI is very difficult, and the only articles I found showed how to create Semantic models and create the reports from them.
I have no experience with DAX, and it was very difficult to create a model on it’s own.
I learned that I could create models from views. I liked that idea since I am coming from a SQL server background, and I can control the data in the view. Things like formatting dates, calculating time difference etc.
I created the models in a trial license and had no issues. The license expired, and we moved everything to our production capacity.
I really don’t know how to create a report any other way. I am using Fabric and PBI within my fabric workspace.
Is there any training to create reports with subscriptions that do not use capacity?
If you can point me in the right direction or give me some clues how that would be amazing!!
Thank you for your help,
Joe
