Hi all,
Am wondering if anyone else has come across this. We've been using the Export-to-File REST API for quite a while now (we're up to 30,000+ exported PDF reports since Nov-2022). But we've only just now noticed some intermittent problems with the exported PDF. Sometimes the grids/visuals won't contain any data. These are typically just 1 or 2 page reports. For each report we export, we apply specific filters, and always for 1 given user - so the report will always only contain data for a single user. Sometimes a user has no data, so an empty report is expected. But we found examples where the user REALLY DID/DOES have data, yet the PDF isn't showing the data. Unfortunately, we're not able to manually check/QA each of 30,000 reports produced, we just happened to notice a couple recently. In all the hundreds and hundreds that we have checked, the data is there as expected. What worries me is the PBI service that's processing this API call has reported a "status" of "Succeeded" and "percentComplete" of "100" (we check for both), but internally the report hasn't completely finished rendering. In the cloud world, "hiccups" are fairly common - but usually they come with an error, so you know when to re-try, and usually the re-try works. But here, there's no error, we're being told the report is completed, yet there's no data. Part of me hopes this isn't happening to anyone else. Another part hopes it has - so we can tell MS that this appears to be a problem they need to fix. Thanks for listening, Greg
Upon further review.... I just discovered that the timing of the exports was bad; they were running during a separate report deployment, where the dataset was temporarily (and purposely) "empty" via some temp-user credentials. Later, when the dataset was updated to use good credentials and refreshed, the exports - which were still running during this time - started getting populated as expected. Apologies for false alarm!
