Drive / change slicer selection based on value selected from a matrix

Hi Experts!

I am new to PBI and working on a solution which is already functional in Qlik Sense and trying to replicate the same in PBI

The functionality which am trying to get it worked in PBI -

In Qlik Sense we a filter /slicer using which a user select a product and based on the selection two grids at the bottom display the details. the grids are Cost (from Side) and Recovery (to Side)

The user also has a functionality to let user select a product from either cost /recvovery and this will change the selection when the user has perfomred when he/she lands on the screen

How can we get the same functionality in PBI though am aware we cannot directly change the Slicer value based on matrix selection.

I was thinking of creating a measure which will capture the Product selection (selected by user when user lands on the screen)  and the value will change when the User select a Cost / recovery product from the maxtrix.

But, am not getting how do I use the measure which is used to capture the selection into matix to show details based on the matrix product selection

Hi @punitpopli ,

Thanks for the additional details.. The behaviour you are trying to replicate from Qlik where a selection inside a matrix updates the slicer and filters other visuals is not supported in Power BI. Measures cannot be used as filters, and visuals cannot push their selections back into a slicer or override its value.

Because of this, clicking a product in the Cost matrix cannot drive both matrices or change the slicer selection. The closest supported alternatives are using disconnected slicers, drill-through, or separate detail pages.

If this approach does not meet your requirement, please share a small sample dataset and the expected behaviour so we can help suggest a workable Power BI design.

Please show the expected outcome based on the sample data you provided.

Hi @punitpopli ,

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Fabric Community Forum.

Could you please let us know if the issue has been resolved? I wanted to check if you had the opportunity to review the information provided by @lbendlin and @GeraldGEmerick  . If you still require support, please let us know, we are happy to assist you.

Thank you.

Would be really helpful if you can hgelp, as this is one of the critical functionality for the product

This is what we are trying to replicate the functionality (not working though)

Created a measure which will capture the selected value from Slicer and both Cost / Reconvery views and the next step am trying to get  -

  • The measure value applied to the matrix visual
  • filter the matrix visual (cost side) for the value selected
  • filter the recovery filter based on the selected value from Cost matrix

Power BI is not Qlik. It does not natively support Qlik's associative model that your requirement seems to be based on.

Instead, formulate the business requirement, and implement that in Power BI with the Power BI features.

If that is not possible, continue using Qlik.

thank for for taking out time and review the question

@punitpopli Actually, you should be able to change the options in the Slicer based on a selection in the Matrix by editing the interactions. By default, selections in visuals do not interact with slicers. However, you can change this default behavior by choosing Edit interactions from the View menu.
