1. Setting Default Filter Values (Gender: Male, Category: Clothing)

To set default values for slicers such as "Gender: Male" and "Category: Clothing" when the user logs in, follow these steps:

For Gender (Male):

  • Add a Slicer visual for the "Gender" field.
  • Click on the slicer, then select "Male" in the slicer.
  • Now, go to the Filters pane on the right and click on "Gender" under the slicer.
  • Set the filter to "Male" (you can also select this directly from the slicer).
  • In Power BI Desktop, save the report with the filter already applied. When you publish the report, the slicer will show "Male" by default for all users.

For Category (Clothing):

  • Add a Slicer visual for the "Category Name" field.
  • Similarly, select "Clothing" in the slicer to set it as the default filter.
  • The same method applies here: set the default filter and save the report.

2. Buttons for Show/Hide and Clear Filters

You can create buttons to show/hide visuals or clear filters as follows:

Show/Hide Visual Button:

  1. Create a Button: Go to the "Insert" tab and select "Button" > "Blank."
  2. Assign Action: In the button's "Format" pane, toggle "Action" to On.
  3. Set the Type of action to Bookmark (you’ll create a bookmark in the next step).
  4. Create two bookmarks (one showing the visual and one hiding it). In the "View" tab, click on Bookmarks Pane, and then click "Add" to create a bookmark for the current view.
    • Bookmark 1: Visual shown.
    • Bookmark 2: Visual hidden (you can hide the visual by simply selecting the visual and pressing the "eye" icon to hide it).
  5. Assign Bookmarks to the Button: You can assign different bookmarks to different buttons to toggle between the two states.

Clear All Filters Button:

  1. Create another Blank Button (like before).
  2. In the "Format" pane, toggle Action to On and select "Clear All Filters" as the action type.
  3. Now, when the user clicks on this button, it will reset all slicers and filters.
