pulling from Web API

Hello!

I'm quite a newbie here.

My problem is connected with getting additional data from Web API.

The API is meant to give out certain data & then additional data regarding to the first, by using a parameter ID from the first column of the first dataset.

I have already connected to a WEB source with a certain URL and API key, and gotten my results, parsed JSON and got an OK-looking query formed.

Now I need to use the first column of the formed query to connect again (with slightly changed URL) and get more details about the same rows.

Is it possible to pull this extra data by defining the parameters from the first query's column that will then be pulled all together, instead of doing separate URL connections for each row (not an option, thousands of rows needed)?

It might seem that I'm quite lost from the description above. Might be true. 🙂

Hi @Anonymous ,

You can create new parameter following steps below.

a.Create new parameter in Query Editor , for example create parameter1, choose "List of value" as suggested Value, type your Web URL.

b.Then you can click Advanced Editor , change the source name to Parameter1(defaUlt value is URL1).

c.You can via "Manage Parameter" to choose your desired URL value.

Hello!

Thank you very much for the answer and added links.

It seems to me, that by your description I would have to change the parameter by hand every time I want to change it in the URL?

My idea was to use the listed parameters (lets call it Column1) from Query1 to get a Query2, which contains the details about the same rows from Query 1 by changing the parameter in the URL.

For this I need to connect to the source again, with the parameter gotten from the Column1 of Query1, inserting it into the URL to get from the API.

I can access the details necessary for Query2 by entering the Column1 parameter from Query1 to the source URL, but i cannot for the life of me figure out how to automate it, so the Query2 would have all the rows done with one request.

So essentially I am looking for a way not to change the parameters by hand but to execute all parameters from the list at the same time to get a full Query2 out of it (each parameter gives info about one row from Query1 anyway).

What I tried:

* Added a new query from Query1 Column1 which contained the parameters, thus making it a list for parameters.

(Query1 is brought from the Source with an URL.)

* Produced a new Parameter1, which gets it's values from the Query, that is essentially that list of parameters.

* Tried to produce Query2 by putting Parameter1 into the URL, but it only gives me one value from the parameter's values list. Is it possible for PowerBI to run all parameters together to have a full query from these?

Any ideas?

Cheers

J
