grouping the rest of data into others

Hi,
I am trying to display 5 items particular items from a column of data and group the rest into others to be displayed in a column chart which allows the user to drill down into others. I tried the group data method but it does not group the blanks into others and others does not show in the visual. 

is there another way besides creating a custom/calculated column?
