date grouping for x-axis by year

Hi All

I'm pulling my hair out trying to get my x-axis to format correctly.  I have one chart that is showing correctly by grouping by year.  It has a year, month heirarchy in the axis

Capture.JPGCapture.JPGAnd, in the formatting options of the x-axis, I show below.  I circled the options that aren't shownig on my 2nd chart which is basically a duplicate of this chart that is working.  But, it's missing the circled options.

And, I can only get it to look like

Both Fields are the same formt.  Am I missing something?

The MonthShort field in the one that doesn't work is MonthShort = format('Case Date Open'[Date],"mmm").  The date field is a datetype field.

The weird thing is,  the chart that looks correct is referencing that same field.

Yes, it was off and I actually turned it on and then off again to just to see if it would reset something
