calculate percentage change in a measure from previous period

Hi everyone,

I am trying to calculate percentage change from previous period. I am stuck since days.

I have a measure x, reflecting a rate such as

x = goods_returned/goods_sold

now I need a new_measure that calculates the percentage change in x over quarters such as

new_measure = (x_in_some_quarter - x_in_previous_quarter) / x_in_previous_quarter

a resulting table should look like this

quarter        x          new_measure

2019-Q1     10%      N/A (no previous period to compare to)

2019-Q2     11%      10% (going from 10% to 11% represents a 10% increase from last period)

2019-Q3     12%      9.1%

2019-Q4     11%      -8,3%

I tried with previousperiod(), a bunch of approaches previously discussed in these forums - somehow nothing works out. What could be the pitfall in my case? What am I missing? Any tips or directions would be very appreciated!

Thanks,

E.

1 ACCEPTED SOLUTION

Hi,

thanks for your reply. In the end I was able to get what I want using the QoQ quick measure, which previously didn't work for me as I wasn't using a time field in the visuals themselves (rather I used a text field representing a year and a quarter).

Regards,

E.

Hi , @eda

According to your description, I can't judge the problem you have now. Sample data and expected output would help tremendously.
Could you please share your PBIX/some sample data and expected result to me if you don't have any Confidential Information?
You can upload your pbix file to OneDrive and share it with me if it is convenient..
