Why does PowerBI date formatting default to verbose long dates and not short date?
Has anyone every actually used the default date format in a PowerBI report? *Wednesday, March 14, 2001 (Long Date)
Every time I add a data source with dates, I have to go into the dataset, manually switch every date field to (Short Date), wait for "Working On It", then refresh the report I am trying to build. It's like infinite decimals being the default formatting.
This is just stupid. Has anyone at Microsoft ever built a report with Power BI?

I understand your pain, what I can advise is that currently with the TMDL viewer you can make this change in seconds for all fields of date in your semantic model, and this will run in much less time than the Working on It that you see.
pbi just ships with long‑date as its built‑in default, and there’s no published way to change that default as of Jun 2026.
