BACKGROUND:
We are a quite big company that exists in many countries and I'm working in the global BI team.
The countries have there own BI developers that helps there own country with there needs.
Today we are designing the global models in SSAS (Tabular model).
It's quite complex models with alot of data.
The security is handled in the SSAS model with Office groups.
CHALLENGE:
Our challenges today is that countries can't use our models as they want.
They have maybe 95% of data in the global models.
The rest 5% of data each country want to combine add by there own to our our model is a challenge.
Today we do not have a good solution of how to solve it for them, so I hope you can help us with some good suggestions.
Today it's not possible to combine data with our SSAS models for them, is a way forward to use Power BI instead of SSAS?
And what is happening, is that the BI developers in each countries starts to build there own models with dataflows for example, witch is not good.
GOAL:
Let the countries have the possibility to combine the last 5% of data by there own to ower global models.
QUESTIONS:
- How can we solve this?
There isn't a dataflows connector for SSAS/AAS, so you'd have to use the connector in Power BI Desktop to get this data.
You can load your SSAS data into an Import report, but since it won't be Live Connection anymore, you'll have construct your own data model and implement RLS if needed. You can then load your other data, through dataflows or not.
Thank's for your feedback.
So then I don't see any reason for using SSAS and have the RLS there as we have today.
What we need to do is build our models in power BI instead of SSAS.
Is it possible to use office 365 groups in a power bi reports for RLS?
