WebView2 problem

I successfully installed WebView2 from https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-edge/webview2/ and everything was working fine in Power BI Desktop. Then weeks later, some update or fix to WebView2 happened on my computer and it broke. When I launch Power BI, I get this message:

Rudz_0-1671040593751.png

"Future versions of this application will require a core component to be updated. To avoid disruptions, please install Microsoft Edge WebView2 and activate the "Power Bl Deskt..."

When I go to (Windows) Settings > Apps, I can see that WebView2 was installed at some point after my install. So I manually remove WebView2 and reinstall, and it works again until 2 weeks later when the same thing happens. Again I can see the install date has changed since my install, and the new install doesn't work.

This week it happened for the third time. Any advice on how I can figure out what corporate install / push is wiping out WebView2? Is there anything else I can look at to tell what is wrong with the version that doesn't work with Power BI Desktop? I don't want to have to fix WebView2 every 2 weeks for the rest of my life!

I'm sorry I did not reply to your post, but I was hoping someone who had actually read my post would give a better answer. I begin with "I successfully installed WebView2" and then you gave me instructions on how to install WebView2. This is not a solution that addresses my problem. Please unmark it so maybe someone else can help.

Hi @Rudz ,

To use WebView2, you will need to install it. Depending on the configuration on your machine there are a couple of scenarios.

  1. First, check if WebView2 is already installed on your machine (see above). If so, no further action is required.
  2. If you use have the Microsoft 365 applications installed on your machine and are getting monthly updates, you should already have WebView2. If you receive semi-annual updates, you will receive WebView2 soon. No further action is necessary.
  3. If you use Windows 11, WebView2 is installed by default, so unless it was removed there is no action required.

@Anonymous  and @Anonymous This does not address my problem in the slightest. Can you please unmark as a solution?
