Visuals not updating with latest data after refresh is completed.

Hi All,

My Power BI report on desktop and app doesn’t update visual with today’s data until after 11am AEST time. Once refresh is completed, the dataset is getting updated with latest/ today’s (9 Nov 2021)data, but the visuals are not updating automatically with today’s data.

For example, today is 9 Nov 2021, the dataset has refreshed data for 9 Nov 2021. All dates on the data are already AEST which is all good. My computer is on AEST time zone. Yet Power BI fails to recognise that today is 9 Nov 2021 until after 11am AEST time that it starts picking up the data for 9 Nov 2021 on the visuals.

I am using relative date mode on the date slicer, yet Power BI thinks it is 8 Nov 2021 (yesterday’s date) instead of 9 Nov 2021.

Screens shots taken on 9 Nov 2021, at 10.30 am AEST time.

The below screen shot should show 9/11/2021 – 9/11/2021

Even if you select last 1 day, it still shows 8 Nov 2021.

Even if you select Next 1 day, it still shows 8 Nov 2021

If I change the date filter to this week then power BI picks the data for today 9 Nov 2021 as well in the range and shows correct visuals

If I manually go and change the date filter to show data in a range, I am able to select 9 Nov 2021 date and the visuals reflect the data for 9 Nov 2021. But this is not ideal, as we plan to auto refresh data and the users should automatically see today’s data.

Visuals start showing today’s data 9 Nov 2021.

Now if you select last 1 day, it still shows 9 Nov 2021 instead of 8 Nov 2021.

Even if you select Next 1 day, it still shows 9 Nov 2021 instead of 10 Nov 2021

Is anyone facing this issue? Is there a bug with Power BI recognising This day (today’s date correctly)? Appreciate any assistance.

@HBEN my understanding is that relative date slicers are always operating in UTC, not your local time zone.

Have you taken that into consideration?  I think it may explain what you're seeing.

Try using the filter type “Relative date” where in you can choose last one week and enable “Include today”. Its working for me for last month criteria.

@ebeery - Thank you for your message. Yes, my issue is that although all data is in local (AEST) time zone, the date slicer in Power BI is in UTC time zone and hence only recognises today after 11am AEST time. The date slicer is a very useful tool that most of us use hence wonder if Power BI is working on a solution to enable the slicer to work in the local time zone.

Is there any other date slicer that I can import into Power BI that will work on local time zone?

Many Thanks

Hi @HBEN , I'm not sure whether any custom visuals exist that would solve the issue, but there are various approaches to it, one which is described in the link below:

Also, there is an Idea submitted to address the issue, which you can vote for:
