Using filter selection to select multiple pieces of data

I have different tables with data about countries.  I want to select a country from a filter and then see which countries are similar to that country based on the other variables. It would be great if there is a way where the user can select which of these other variables to find similar countries on.

By "similar" it could be as simple as a table where once you've selected a country it shows a few countries with similar numbers. E.g. I select US and I see the 5 next countries with greater population and the 5 next countries with lower population

I don't think you can directly select "similar" countries via country selection since Slicer/Filter can't determine your "similar" rules. You can only apply a filter based on the population range.
