Using Power BI Maps with car tracking

I am trying to use Power BI Maps to track car locations and their relative positions to certain landmarks. As an example, you have:

1. 20 car positions showing in the SF bay area, based on lat/long, with small circles representing each, this is easy

2. A larger circle representing the Golden Gate Bridge, with the idea being that you can see each car's position relative to the Golden Gate Bridge, and if the car circle is inside of the Golden Gate Bridge circle, it's "close enough" to the Golden Gate Bridge

As I mentioned, #1 is easy, simply plotting each car in each position, based on their lat/long. But what I would like to do is somehow control the size of the circle for #2 (the landmark) based on X number of miles in diameter, and have that size maintain when you zoom in, so the circle would appear bigger when you zoom because it's still the same amount of miles in diameter.

I have some hacks which get me a 70% solution, which might be good enough, but I was just wondering if anyone has done anything similar to the above, or if they might have some hack ideas? I know Power BI probably isn't ideal for this kind of thing (creating a custom map from scratch is best), but hacks can go a long way.

Hey @Anonymous ,

I did not do something similar, but my first thought: this can be done by using the icon-map custom visual: Icon Map (icon-map.com)

If you are currently not using icon-map, give it a try. Personally, I consider the visual being the most powerful map visual at the moment.

Tom

Hi, @Anonymous

Not sure this is possible.
If you could consider sharing something about the 70% solution you got, maybe someone could have some ideas to get more or even a complete solution.
