Hi,
Short breefing of my problem.
There is a SQL server hosted at a supplier and we have ODBC connection open to a specific IP adress on a server in our network.
I can setup a Standard Gateway on that server and establish connection in Power BI web but how do I connect to the gateway in PBI Desktop on my computer where I doesn't have access to the SQL server?
Solved! Go to Solution.
@Ortega , Gateway is the bridge between Desktop and Web.
If you need Web/Service data, you can create a dataflow and connect to that to get data.

Hi, @Ortega
First, make sure that the administrator has installed and properly configured the on-premises data gateway on the servers in the network. This gateway acts as a bridge between the Power BI service and the vendor-hosted SQL Server.
When working in Power BI Desktop, if you plan to publish a report to the Power BI service and need to refresh the data through the gateway, you should use DirectQuery or import mode for the data connection.
After you create a report in Power BI Desktop, publish it to the Power BI service. In the Power BI service, gateway connections play a role in data refresh scenarios.
In the Power BI service, make sure that your report's data source settings are correctly configured to use the on-premises data gateway. This step is critical to enable the Power BI service to refresh data in SQL Server through the gateway.
For more information about how an on-premises data gateway works and how it can be configured, see the following documentation:
