Using Advanced Editor rather than GUI for M code

When doing transformations in Power Query, I always use the GUI and use M code when making custom columns.

I wanted to learn to use the Advanced Editor more often to reinforce learning M code. Is there some trick to learn how this do without seeing the result with the GUI to make transformations?

When I filter a row I can see it; however, if I do a split a column and it's a little more complex it's very easy to see in the GUI the result than to type in the advanced editor.

Is there some way to learn to utilize the advanced editor rather than using the GUI? What is the workflow of those using the advanced editor when first seeing data to clean up? That is, do you look at the data, plan your transformations then execute on your M code needs?

@jpalaci1 , Most of the time you have table transform code which is used in such cases. My advice would use GUI and look at the code then try to write down the same for other piece of code.
