Use Parameter to return dynamic measure field for use in filled map

I have a dataset that is an aggregation, by state and county, of different measures (e.g. count of people, houses and "people per house").  Each of these measures is of type = decimal, with one decimal place.

I have a VIZ that uses a filled map, where the filled color is a gradient showing the density of these measures in different counties).  The filled map works fine if I use any of the measures individually.

I am trying to set up a parameter, for use in a slicer, so that the gradient changes if we toggle between the measures. (in other words, if "People" is selected in the slicer, then the map uses the "People" measure for the gradient.  Or if I change the slider to "People per House", the gradient then changes to use that measure instead)

I created the measure, and the slicer, and set up a card for the output.  The output looks correct, however, the paramater is defaulting the resulting value to a text format, so the map is unable to use the value correctly.

I have tried to use SWITCH as an alternate solution, but this has also been unsuccessful.  Anyone have any other ideas? Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

@cmihale have you tried field parameters for the measure selection?
