Updating a specific table while connected to PBI dataset in service

Hello Community,

If a user has both the dataset and visuals in one .PBIX they can right click a table and update that specific table but if they just have the visuals wwhich is connected to a dataset in the service, they do not have this option. Because of this limitation everyone currently has to download and pass around large .PBIX files which is slow and unneccesary.

Is there a way for me to allow users to refresh a specific table in a dataset while being connected to the dataset through the service? If I have to use Apps or Automate that would be fine as well but I can't seem to find an option for this and am wondering if it is even possible?

@lbendlin Hi! I was trying to do what you basically suggested here, and I was following this tutorial. The problem is that when I try to supply the request, i get 403 (forbidden). I'm currently on a free trial of Power BI Pro (the one of 60 days), and I'm exploiting my university account.

I also tried to search for a solution, and I find some posts and discussions, like this one, but I don't really understand how the part related to the creation of the app on Azure and my Power BI report should be linked.

Maybe I'm missing something? Maybe I get 403 because I haven't the Power BI administrator role? Or is there something else?

Thanks in advance

Most likely these API calls are only applicable to Power BI Premium capacitites.

@lbendlin yeah, I was just about to update my previous reply, you anticipated me, thank you. My doubt regarding this is the following: is a capacity the same of a license? I'm new to Power BI, so the terminology of literature is not my strong point, and the doubt came out after watching this Youtube video, where the guy at 1:24 talks about licenses, but then when I went back to my workspace I was able to apply a Premium x user capacity, just as he did at 1:40. I post a screen below:

In practice, given what is stated here, there is also the needing to enable read/write for a Premium capacity in order to use XMLA endpoints, and that must be done from the tenant settings in the admin portal, which I can't access because I don't have the Power BI administrator role. Also I noticed a little difference here, with respect to my screen avove, because in the last link I provided there is that yellow switch enabled, while in my screen there isn't, so maybe my 60 days Power BI free trial is simply giving me false hope, I don't know.

Anyway, I made a post here some minutes ago where I explained what I'm trying to do, basically I'm trying to update a single Power BI table using Power Automate, if you have the time to take a look at it I would be very grateful, I am ready to listen to any kind of help or suggestion. Thanks again.

Needs more details. What capacity are you on?

Sure, you can run Power Automate flows that can request individual table or even partition refresh.  Note that is only a request, and there is no guarantee that the request is accepted, or that it will complete successfully (and when).  So the end user experience will be very unsatisfactory.
