Hi @Prateekh1  - check on  that you are using 64-bit Power BI Desktop with the 64-bit Smartsheet ODBC driver. If you're using a tool like Power BI, Excel, or a custom script, verify you're using the 64-bit version.

Download Microsoft Power BI Desktop from Official Microsoft Download Center

Hope this helps

Hey there! So, imagine your computer is trying to open a special box (called a “container”) to do some work, but it suddenly crashes and says:
“Oops! Something went wrong – code 0xC0000005.”

That’s just a fancy way of saying:
“I tried to use some memory I wasn’t allowed to, and now I’ve stopped working.”

This usually happens when your computer is trying to talk to another system using a tool called ODBC, especially when you’re using something like Power BI to look at data.

How to Fix It (Step by Step)

1. Clean Up the Mess (Clear the Cache)

Sometimes Power BI keeps old files that confuse it. Let’s clean those up!

  • Go to this folder on your computer:
    C:\Users\<your_name>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Power BI Desktop\Cache
  • Delete everything inside.
  • Open Power BI again and see if it works better.

2. Check Your Tools (ODBC Driver)

Make sure you’re using the right version of the tool that helps Power BI talk to other systems.

  • If you’re using Smartsheet, go to their official website and download the newest version of the connector.
  • Make sure it matches your computer type:
    • x64 if your computer is 64-bit
    • x86 if it’s 32-bit

3. Watch Out for Locked Doors (Port Settings)

If you’re using a special door (called a “port”) like 8443, it might be locked unless you have the right key (SSL settings).

  • Try using a different door like 8123 if you can.
  • Or make sure the SSL settings are set up properly.

4. Check the Container’s Health (Diagnostics)

If you’re using something fancy like Azure or a container system, you might need to look at its health report.

  • Use tools that show you what happened before it crashed.
  • Look for any signs of memory problems or missing settings.

Hi @Prateekh1 ,

Thank you for sharing the details. The error code 0xC0000005 clearly indicates an access violation, which is typically caused by a mismatch between your Power BI Desktop version and the Smartsheet ODBC driver.

Please verify that you have the 64-bit Power BI Desktop and the 64-bit Smartsheet ODBC driver installed. If your Power BI Desktop is 32-bit, then you need the 32-bit driver. You can download the correct 64-bit Power BI Desktop from the official Microsoft Download Center.

If reinstalling hasn't solved the issue, I recommend fully uninstalling the connector, removing any residual files, and then installing the latest Smartsheet driver. Additionally, if you're using a data gateway, make sure the same driver version is installed on that machine as well.

To confirm the source of the issue, try connecting to Smartsheet via ODBC from Excel or the ODBC Data Source Administrator. If the crash persists, it confirms the connector is at fault, and Smartsheet Support will be best equipped to resolve it.

Thank you,

Tejaswi.
