Hi There,
I have been trying to update a Power BI desktop file and it won’t save. When I try it says that it’s unable to save the document and to check to see if I have the relevant permissions, as well as pro licensing.
I can confirm that I have the relevant licensing, and I’m able to save and publish other power BI files. But for some reason, some files won't save.
I've tried saving this file on two seperate machines, as well as within sharepoint sync, and outside sharepoint sync - and it still produces the below message. This file was saving fine up until today.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Had a very similar error message.
I'd sent a file to someone (which they sent back to me after adding a couple of things) then I tried to save the file to the Downloads folder then got an error message saying "Unable to save document."
I'd selected the Downloads path that was displayed in the 'recent' list of files/folders in Power BI.
But going to browse this device and then selecting the Downloads folder from there is what fixed the problem for me!
I had this same error. What happened to me is PBI allows you to open unlimited copies of the exact same PBIX file. Check to make sure you and anyone else, have only opened the file once. You should have the only file opened. Once I closed the extra file instance the save worked for me.
Do you have Sensitivity enabled for the file? I had the same error - I changed sensitivity and try again and it saved.
It worked from my end
Hi @user9877
Is your data source and your Power BI Desktop in same PC? Please check whether you have permission to this data source. Is this error appear when you publish this report to Power BI Service? Please check your Network and ask your IT whether there is a fire wall and make sure Power BI port and your data source are in white list.
Please download the latest version of Power BI Desktop and try again.

Is that a location on your PC? Maybe there are group policies in place that prevent you/certain users from writing to certain folders.
