Trying to use ArcGIS for Power BI and get a generic message

I'm trying to use the ArcGIS for Power BI control in Power BI Desktop and get this generic message:

This map does not meet the requirements for Power BI Report Server. I have been investigating and I need to understand if I need to have Power BI service. Please help.

When using ArcGIS for Power BI within Power BI Desktop, it's important to differentiate between the Power BI Report Server (an on-premises solution) and the Power BI Service (a cloud-based solution). The Power BI Report Server might have limitations or lack full support for ArcGIS Maps, leading to error messages like the one you encountered. You might find better support in the Power BI Service to take full advantage of ArcGIS Maps for Power BI. Ensure you're using the latest version of Power BI Desktop, have the necessary licenses for both Power BI and ArcGIS, and verify that your map visualizations are compatible with the platform you're publishing to.
