If I understand you correctly, and you expect that clicking on one of the parts will change something in the graph itself, then this is indeed not possible.
You need to add a slicer with your categories to filter.
You can attach an example if you are trying to accomplish something other.

Helper IIthanks, I really didn't confirm but make sense about the slicer. But the slicer could not be the treemap itself?

Treemap can filter other visuals, not himself...
