Transformed Date field forces a Date Hierarchy

Hello All,  New to PowerBI.

I am working on tranforms and a date field.  It was a text field with dates but I changed it to a date\time field.

Now when I select the field it only gives my Year,Quarter,Month,Day and I can't get a regular date field anymore.

WHAT THE HECK IS HAPPENING?  I am completely stuck.

Hi @ComputerHabit
I know this is the default nature of Date type filed. when i add just a date field it gives me this like year-qtr- month-day not actual date DD-MM-YYY format.

you just have to select the down arrow there is an option of date hierarchy or date .

just select your normal date and you will get the actual date of your database.

check the screenshot.

Hi @ComputerHabit
If i understood you correctly and we are talking about how you see it in the visual, you can modify it :

+ it is not recommended to use the auto date time hierarchies so you can switch off this option as a default :

When Power BI automatically detects a date field, it creates a date hierarchy with Year, Quarter, Month, and Day. If you want to use the regular date field instead of this hierarchy, follow these steps to switch back to the regular date format:

Steps to Switch from Date Hierarchy to Regular Date Field:

  1. In the Report view (the canvas where you build visuals):

    • Select the visual that uses the date field.
  2. Locate the Date Field in the Fields pane:

    • You will see the date field being used in your visual. When a date field is converted to a hierarchy, it will show as something like Date Hierarchy in the Values section of the visual.
  3. Switch to Regular Date Field:

    • Click the drop-down arrow next to the date field in the Values section of the visual (the "down arrow" next to the field name in the visual's data settings).
    • Select the option that simply shows the date field name (without "Date Hierarchy"). This will change it back to displaying the full date.
  4. Remove and Re-add Field (Optional):

    • If the drop-down does not give the expected options, you can try removing the date field from the visual and then re-adding it from the Fields pane by directly dragging the date field (not the hierarchy).
