Tooltip report page

Hi,

I'm trying to understand the Tooltip section on the Visualisations pane for the report tooltip page ("Allow use as tooltip"=On and source page is referencing the report tooltip page via configured "Report page" type and the name of tooltip page in Format/General/Tooltips/Options). There is a field with the text “Drag tooltip fields here” just under “Keep all filters”.

Let’s see the documentation:

“Once that slider is set to on, you specify the fields for which you want the report tooltip to appear. For visuals in the report that include the field you specify, the tooltip will appear. You specify which field or fields apply by dragging them into the Tooltip fields bucket, found in the Fields section of the Visualizations pane.”

However, any field I put there has no impact on my report tooltip. The output is always the same (the correct one) and nothing changes. It doesn’t matter if the field is included in the visual or not. Even dragging no field works.

I’d appreciate if anybody could explain the usage of fields in the Tooltip section with an example. As well as the difference between “Summarized” and “Used as category”.

I haven’t found anything on the internet regarding this issue, the articles are too simple and don’t explain this feature in depth.

Thank you in advance.

harry.

Hi , @harry_pbi

According to your description, you want to know the "Keep all filters" features.

Here is my test data:

vyueyunzhmsft_0-1679017570325.png

If we set the tooltip report page with default and select the "Keep all filters":

vyueyunzhmsft_1-1679017585129.png

Then when we hover over the visual, it applies the current filtering context to the filter of the tooltip page:

In this picture , it will send the [Year]=2020 and the [Category]=c to the tooltip report page .

If we close the "Keep all filters"  and put the fields we need to send ,like this:

Then when  we hover over the visual, it will only send the [Year] filter to the tooltip page .

And the other feature is also used in "Drill through".

Hi , @harry_pbi

Based on your problem description, you seem to be confused about the meaning and function of the fields placed in the "Tooltip" field bucket in various visuals in PBI, according to my local tests, whether you place the field here or not, the "Tooltip" feature will display the values of all the fields placed in the visual, but when you place the field in the "Tooltip" field bucket, the fields you put will be displayed together in their storage format in the " Tooltip", in my case, I have 3 fields in my visual, and there are two aggregation mode fields in "Tooltip", which add up to five fields:

Hi @v-yueyunzh-msft ,

thank you for your reply hovewer you don't explain the issue I have. You mentioned the standard tooltip but I was describing the "report tooltip page". As on the screenshot below.

harry_pbi_0-1678987976099.png

I suspect the fields I put in the Tooltip section on the "report tooltip page" (in the Tooltip section of "TT-Countries" in this example) have sense just in case you choose "Auto" in Format/General/Tooltips/Options in the source viz (on "Custom Tooltips" page).

Best regards.
