There was an error reading the primary service from the application manifest

hi all,

While opening the power bi desktop application i received an error message: "There was an error reading the primary service from the application manifest".

Did an uninstall of the application and downloaded the latest version via the Microsoft store. Unfortunately, when trying to open the newly downloaded tool, i got the same error message.

Recently i updated the OS from Windows 10 to 11, under the 10 version i never had any issues, now i have but i am not sure if this is related to the update.

Hope you can help, thnx!!

Hi @Anonymous

Could you try running Power BI Desktop with administrator privilege to see if it can be launched successfully?

Or you can alse try to install it in 32-bit version. It will run on win-x64 too.

Here is an article about resolving Issues when Power BI Desktop will not launch for your reference.

If the above one can't help you, could you please provide more raw data in your tables (exclude sensitive data) with Text format and your expected result with backend logic and special examples? It would be helpful to find out the solution. You can refer the following links to share the required info:

And It is better if you can share a simplified pbix file. You can refer the following link to upload the file to the community. Thank you.

For anyone that for some reason does not have admin privileges u can right click the Power BI Icon on the start menu, choose "Apps Settings" (if u are promted with admin privileges just click on the "X"). Now u should be presented with the settings for power BI, scroll down until u find  the "Reset" subtitle. U can now try to repair it and see if it works, if it doesnt just reset the app.
This worked for me. Cheers.
