The new "Fabric Capacity Metric" app

For some days ago we got this message to upgrade the Capacity Metric app to the new Fabric version.

Gen2 depricated.png

After the update

- It's not possible to search for a workspace in the app. Or?
We have used it a lot when we are doing quality checks on our workspaces. To check how the datasets perform in the workspce.

- The monitoring report for refreshes is not longer available in the "Fabric Capacity Metric" app. Why?
Is it the "Monitoring hub" that is going to be used instead or? I still think the old report was so much better.
In that case, I think we need to grant all admins access to all workspaces if we should used Monitor Hub instead or?

Hi @tobiasnygren

Please  find below answers to your Mertic app queries
Why can't I search for a workspace in the Fabric Capacity Metrics app after the update?

The ability to search for a workspace was removed from the Fabric Capacity Metrics app in the new Fabric version. This was done to simplify the app and make it easier to use. Instead of searching for a workspace, you can now select the workspace you want to monitor from a list of all workspaces in your organization.

Why is the monitoring report for refreshes no longer available in the Fabric Capacity Metrics app?

The monitoring report for refreshes has been moved to the Monitoring Hub. The Monitoring Hub is a new tool that provides a more comprehensive view of your Power BI environment, including capacity metrics, performance metrics, and health metrics.

Should I use the Monitoring Hub instead of the Fabric Capacity Metrics app?

If you need to monitor refreshes in your organization, I recommend using the Monitoring Hub. The Monitoring Hub provides a more detailed view of refreshes than the Fabric Capacity Metrics app, and it also includes the ability to create custom alerts and reports.

Do I need to grant all admins access to all workspaces if I use the Monitoring Hub?

No, you do not need to grant all admins access to all workspaces if you use the Monitoring Hub. You can assign permissions to the Monitoring Hub in the same way that you assign permissions to any other Power BI resource.

To assign permissions to the Monitoring Hub, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Power BI Admin Portal.
  2. Select Workspaces.
  3. Select the workspace that contains the Monitoring Hub.
  4. Select the Permissions tab.
  5. Under Direct access, click Add.
  6. Enter the email address of the user or group that you want to assign permissions to.
  7. Select the permissions that you want to assign.
  8. Click Add.
