I'm following the steps shown at https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/visuals/power-bi-visualization-scatter to add a "symmetry shading" to the scatter plot.
That's not possible because the menu item is greyed out:
The axis aren't categorical nor log axis.
I'm using Power BI Desktop
Version: 2.105.1143.0 64-bit (Mai 2022)
Any help is appreciated.
TIA,
Martin

Hey @McMartin
to use Symmetry shading it's required that both axis are using quantitative values, meaning numeric columns or measures.
Hopefully, this provides an idea of what's going on.

Tom
Hi @TomMartens ,
actually that's what I thought I am doing. As I wrote I follow the steps from the tutorial, even with their data. Without success 😞
But this tutorial seems to be outdated. The screenshot given there shows the old icon for formating of a visualization. I'm using the latest update out off the App store ....

Martin
Hi @McMartin ,
Yes, Power BI has updated the preview of the modern pane, which is a little different from the previous layout, but it doesn't affect it.
The fields in the document are set as follows.
Attached PBIX file for reference.

I have the same bug since last update.
I have a report that prior to that update showed the shading but now it simply does not. This report is also published in Power BI Service, with the same issue
Hi @v-cgao-msft ,
thank you for your pbix-file. I've opened it on my computer. It looks like this:
No Symmetry shading visible nor available 😞
Do I need a Power BI Service License or something else? I thought I can use Power BI Desktop as standalone program.
Kind regards,
Martin

Hi @McMartin ,
I also found this problem during testing.
A workaround is to use an older version of Power BI Desktop to open the file. I will escalate this issue and please wait for a subsequent fix. Thank you for your contribution.🤗

Something strange is going on: I've checked the type of the axes. The type is "Continuous". So far so good. When I switch to "Categorical" the visual shows an error, but the menu still shows "Continuous" as selected type. When I choose "Categorical" again, everything is messed up: The "Format visual" shows an error, too. But I cannot change anything anymore:
The only way back is undo or deleting the visual.
It seems to me the latest version of Power BI Desktop is quite buggy....

Martin
Hi @McMartin ,
The reason the option greyed out is probably because you had a non-numerical value/text type column in the X axis. If both X and Y axis are numerical field with “Don't summarize”, you should be able to turn on the Symmetry Shading.
